Highlights From Helming Competition


Another Cyprus Dragon boat competition is done. With more than 40 participants it wasn’t an easy event. All helming skills was needed in order to complete successfully the root and accomplish it with in a minimum time. As it was really interesting event and that was organized for the first time, spartans and viewers enjoyed it and had a wonderful time.



Dragon Boat European club crew Championships- Sevilla,Spain


We are slowly getting ready to compete once again with full power, July 2thd-28th for the Dragon Boat European club crew Championships which will take place in Spain in the city of Sevilla.
We will be preparing teams which we do not know the number of yet but we are sure to say that our teams are only getting stronger and stronger!

I think Santa should hire giants instead of elves, so that he can have a faster production of gifts. Same goes for our Limassol Spartans Team. Results from the 13th European Dragon Boat Nation Championships


A warm welcome back to our teammates and a big congratulations for the results they have made! Our country was represented by 28 paddlers: members of Limassol Spartans, Zulus, Limassol Dragons and Raging Muflons.

It was not easy race, as every year more and more country teams show up at the championship. No mater what we try our best to compete  and to achieve results.

Limassol Spartans at the EDBF Championships 2018 in Bradenburg,Germany!


EDBF, which stands for European Dragon Boat Federation is organizing the 2018 Nations Championships in Bradenburg,Germany, and

21 out of 28 paddlers will be our amazing Spartans, going to represent Cyprus!

You can keep yourself updated on the results of the facebook page of the EDBF, or the official website. We will of course as well keep you updated on the results as soon as we find out.

They will be racing in 16 different categories, in small and standard boats, each with strong and motivated athletes, and of course with their amazing coach, Djordje Pavlovic joining them as a paddler and as a helm. So wish our Spartans a GOOD LUCK on the championships and PADDLES UP!

10 facts about Dragon Boat that you won’t believe


For the people who don’t know what Dragon Boat really is. Sport based on a big boats, which fits up to 20 people, who are seated on a bench. One person on the right and one on the left, both rowing with a rhythm that the drummer in the front gives. In less words, anyone can do it and it’s real fun, giving you the muscles you need!

Here are some facts about the origin of Dragon Boat and the sport itself:

1. The idea of rowing the dragon boat is derived from the ancient sacrificial activities in the south of China to pray for a kind climate and the best weather.

2.The earliest record of “Dragon Boat” in the Chinese language can be found in an ancient book in the Pre-Qin Period.

3. Dragon Boat has no age limit.

4. Dragon boat racing has been practiced continuously since this period as the basis for annual water rituals and festival celebrations and for the traditional veneration of the Chinese dragon water deity.

5. Dragons were traditionally believed to be the rulers of water on earth: rivers, lakes, and seas; they also were thought to dominate the waters of the heavens: clouds, mists, and rains.

6. The pulsation of the drum beats produced by the drummer may be considered the “heartbeat” of the dragon boat.

7.The IDBF has organized World Nations Dragon Boat Racing Championships (WDBRC) for Representative National or Territorial teams every two years since 1995.

8. Not many people used to know about Dragon Boat, but slowly slowly its becoming more and more recognised around the world.

9. It’s a sport that works on every muscle on your body.

10. Last but not least, this sport is for everyone. Its fun, loving and creative!

Announcement from Cyprus Dragon Boat Federation for competition schedule for the year 2018:

Local Events:
 1. March,3: 2Km Marathon Races
 2. April, 21: 10th International Festival
 3. June, 3: Corporate Dragon Boat Event
 4. June, 23: Championship Sprint Races
 5. October, 13: 11th International Festival
International participation of the National Team:
 1. July, 17-22: 11th IDBF Club Crew World Championship, Szeged, Hungary
 2. August, 23-26: 13th European Nations Championship, Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany

Charity 200m Fun Race


Fun races for all including supporters, small boat open 10 euros per paddler. The charity is Rescue and Rehome Cyprus a very worthy cause. 
Please inform Djordje if you entering team prior to the 18th. This is open to everyone. You need 2 trainings minimum before the event. This can be arranged 5euro per paddler each session. Collecting buckets will be around on the day, so please come support if you can’t paddle. Landmark wins for Cyprus dragon boat teams


Cyprus Dragon boat club Limassol Spartans won four medals in four races, participating against strong and competitive teams from America, Canada, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom at the II Intercontinental Dragon Boat Festival, held in Torrevieja, Spain.

The women’s team won the gold in the small boats category. Two silver medals were won by the mixed category – small boat and the by the open team – small boat team. The Open standard team won the 3rd place and the bronze medal. The Cypriot team was ranked 2nd among the six countries participated.

In the event, eight dragon boats from six countries, broke the Guinness Record, since they managed to paddle 266 Km within 24 hours, non-stop over the previous Guinness record, which was held by a Hong Kong team. The crew of the Limassol Spartans was one of the six crews who broke the Guinness record.
